What we’re funding currently and how to apply.

Building Changes makes funding available in Washington State to test and learn from promising practices. We are able to do this through state allocations made to the Washington Youth & Families Fund and private investments.

Overview:

Building Changes is pleased to make available approximately $3.2 million through two Requests for Proposals—one for projects serving families and one for projects serving youth and young adults. Eligible applicants include housing and social service agencies, nonprofit community-based organizations, local housing authorities, public development authorities, federally recognized tribes, and culturally-specific/Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC)-led and -serving organizations across Washington State. Building Changes will provide funding, technical assistance, and capacity building support for up to three years per project.

Culturally-specific organizations or smaller organizations led by and staffed by persons of color that primarily serve communities of color are encouraged to apply, even if not currently delivering homeless and housing services. If selected as a grantee, Building Changes will provide training and technical assistance.

Projects Serving Families: Building Changes will allocate up to $1,520,000 to support flexible, holistic housing interventions and cultural healing services focused on trauma recovery for families. The goal is to improve housing stability for families and help them recover from trauma through healing services that strengthen their sense of cultural identity, community, and belonging. The focus population is families who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness, including families that are currently receiving housing services such as Rapid Re-Housing, Diversion, or assistance to temporarily stay in hotels/motels.

Projects Serving Youth & Young Adults: Building Changes will allocate up to $1,520,000 to support interventions and activities that center youth-choice, apply flexible assistance and Diversion principles, coordinate housing and legal support, and expand a young person’s network of support. The goal is to improve housing stability for young people and increase their access to housing options that affirm all identities and experience. The focus population is unaccompanied Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) and Lesbian, Gay, Trans, Bisexual, Queer/Questioning, and Two-Spirit (LGTBQ2+) young people who are 16 to 21 years old.
